Locally produced items from the Niseko and Kutchan area are recognised throughout Japan. Hokkaido’s extreme climate and the difference in temperature between day and night increase the flavour profile and sweetness in fruit andvegetables. Fresh products are available throughout Niseko and Kutchan.
Potatoes (early August ‐ October)
Niseko/Kutchan area is one of the top producers of potatoes in the so‐called “potato kingdom” of Hokkaido. The popular kinds are Danshaku and Kita‐akari.
Asparagus (early May ‐ late June)
After the thaw, Niseko’s spring produces the season of tasty traditional green and white asparagus.
Beans edamame (August ‐ September)
Soy beans, red beans, black beans, kidney beans, navy beans and many, many more! Niseko grows a large variety of beans.
Soba (late September ‐ October
From July to August, soba fields are fully covered by white flowers.In Niseko and around the foot of Mt. Yotei there are many handmade soba noodle restaurants where visitors can enjoy different recipes.
Milk & Dairy
Hokkaido milk is fresh and very tasty. There are many ice cream shops, sweet shops and cheese factories where the products are produced on site. For fabulous dairy products including home‐made ice cream and cream puffs, visit the Milk Kobo Factory Shop at Higashiyama. Afterwards, drop by Niseko Fromage and bring back some gouda or camembert, or perhaps try the camembert flavoured ice cream! Take the Niseko Free Passport Bus bound for Niseko Village.
